Art From the Heart at the Tacoma Art Museum

I’ll be doing a presentation of Fake Up at the Tacoma art Museum as part of their Art From The Heart event.

Join several of this year’s honored artists featured in The 10th Northwest Biennial in this day of interactive works of art inspired by the idea of “art and social practice,” a contemporary movement in which artists encourage their audience to think about, discuss, or even act on important social questions of the day.

  • 12–4 pm Get yourself prettified as Abraham Ingle presentsFake Up, an interactive beauty salon using the same nontraditional materials used by incarcerated women. Women in prison, without access to commercial cosmetics, ingeniously use the materials to which they do have access—Skittles, Crystal Lite, and more—to create their own make up, or “fake up.” Ingle first developed Fake Up for the project Wearable Art in Portland, Oregon.
  • 1–5 pm Have a conversation with Ariana Jacob as part of her work The American Society for Personally Questioning Political Questions. Jacob invites individuals who hold strong conservative or libertarian beliefs to join her as she seeks to understand how to genuinely bridge ideological differences. She will incorporate today’s conversations into the installation, expanding its richness and complexity with each discussion.
  • 2-4 pm In Video, Performance, and Identity, audience members become workshop participants as Wynne Greenwood leads a series of exercises that use video images to explore individual and collective identity construction. Limited to 30 participants. Pre-registration recommended. To register, click here or call 253.722.2455.

All activities and performances are free with museum admission. For more information, call 253.272.4258 or visit www.TacomaArtMuseum.org.
